2008 Trentotto File White Hawk Vineyard
$28.00
98% Syrah, 2% Viognier Thirty-eight short rows of Chardonnay were grafted to two different clones of Syrah in 2002. The Clone 174 was chosen for its berry and spice characteristics, and Clone 470 for its meat, game, and bacon notes. The ancient sand dune soil at White Hawk Vineyard makes the Syrah vines struggle, yielding wines with intense aromatics, minerality & the ability to age well. The lower 13.4% alcohol in the 2008 makes the wine beg for food, and won't show it's true potential away from the table. Sturdy grilled meats & spicy sauces complete the picture. Drink now through 2016. 295 cases bottled.
Rhone Report 90+ pts, Dec 2011 "A blend of 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier, all from the White Hawk Vineyard, the 2008 Silver Syrah Trentotto File was aged for 23 months in 35% new American oak barrels, and the balance in neutral French oak. It boast serious, almost severe aromas of pure blackberries, smoked bacon, freshly cracked pepper, wet stone, and wild herbs on the nose. This leads to a medium+ bodied wine that has beautiful mid-palate concentration, borderline too much racy acidity, and a focused, long finish. " Jeb Dunnuck |
