The 2018 vintage is what we refer to as the "Peter Pan" vintage, producing wines that never wanted to grow up. Right now they showcase layers of fruit.
Aroma: Bright red fruit with a lifted floral bouquet of rose petals, fresh crushed strawberry, raspberry, and cherry fruit, and spearmint.
Body: A juicy red fruit core: strawberry & raspberry fruit, with good acidity. Smooth with integrated tannins.
Food Pairing: Charcuterie is always a good choice with Nebbiolo. The 2018 will also accompany roasted chicken, shish kabobs, bbq skewered vegetables, or grilled salmon with a maple syrup or honey glaze.
Awards: Gold Medal 2023 Sommelier Choice Awards
Background: Sourced from vines planted in the early 1980's at Lucas & Lewellyn's Rancho Don Miguel in Los Alamos.
98% Syrah 2% Viognier
Old vine Syrah from Oak Savanna Vineyard in Los Olivos, California
Broad shouldered, smooth, lifted bright red fruits, with an earthy core. From a vintage that is built to age, the 2017 has lots of upfront bold fruit and baking spice to enjoy now. The earthiness will show more as the wine ages. Both elegant & powerful.

The 2017 vintage produced wines that want to be aged, built to age for years to come. They're holding on to their fruit tightly, usually requiring a little encouragement to open & show off their personalities now.
The 2017 Nebbiolo for instance will blossom if you pull the cork 4-6 hours before drinking. No decanting.
Aroma: red licorice, strawberry, cherry, cranberry fruit. Cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Body: Structured around lifted red fruits with a moderately dense, tight core. The wine is smooth, long & the tannins are integrated.
Food Pairing: Charcuterie is always a good choice with Nebbiolo. Pizze: with mushrooms, or carmelized onions & prosciutto. Mushroom risotto. Fresh seared tuna, or grilled.
Background: Sourced from vines planted in the early 1980's at Lucas & Lewellyn's Rancho Don Miguel in Los Alamos.
Very pretty floral, strawberry fruit nose, with a big ball of silky mouth-filling red fruit into a smooth seamless finish. Warning, the bottle will dissappear easily.

The 2016 Nebbiolo was picked from a different block than all the other vintages. The block is interplanted with Pinot Noir rows to help reduce vigor in the nebbiolo.
The South Block is lighter, bright & floral, with good acidity and integrated tannin.
Aroma: Red licorice spice, tar, nutmeg, menthol, & a lifted sweetness. Almost freshly cut sawdust.
Body: Silky smooth red fruits with their bright acidity. It’s more elegant and pretty than broadly structured., hence more feminine like a Barbaresco. Great balance & easy drinking with many foods, especially your favorite charcuterie platter. Will age very well & get more & more silky smooth.
Food Pairing: Charcuterie is always a good choice with Nebbiolo. The 2016 will also pair with Sushi, or thinly sliced skirt steak, grilled.
Background: Sourced from vines planted in the early 1980's at Lucas & Lewellyn's Rancho Don Miguel in Los Alamos.
From the wind beaten hillside at White Hawk Vineyard, in silica rich ancient sand dune soils, comes our second vineyard designated release of 100% Sangiovese. The 2015 vintage Sangiovese WHK Vineyard is more open knit, dark fruit driven, and earthy than the Oak Savanna. There's a dense mid palate weight in the 2015's. Aged in 700L French Oak barrels. Approachable now, and a glimpse of the bright future of Sangiovese in California. Only 145 cases produced. 13.5% alcohol.
A rare floral clone of Sangiovese grown at 1,550 ft elevation. Aged in 860L French Oak tonneaux. The 2015 vintage has both elegance & power, and can be enjoyed now, or aged for an additional 6-8 years. 13.5% alcohol
Three bottles of 2014 Pinot Noir Coteau Palmer for $90.00 plus tax
Located in the northern Los Alamos Valley, Premier Vineyard is at the intersection of 101 North and Palmer Road. "Coteau Palmer" or "Palmer Hillside" is my own fanciful description of this block, tucked back in a canyon, on a steep sandy hill.
Planted to Swiss Clone 2A and Dijon Clone 115, the vines are now over 20 years old. The block faces southwest, and enjoys fantastic exposure all day while being sheltered by the surrounding hills. Yields barely reach 2 tons per acre, and the clusters and berries are very small.
Characteristics of the vintage:
The 2014 vintage wines showed the serious drought was in effect with a high ratio of skins to juice. These wines have a silky feel and an enormous, dense mid palate that will carry them for many years ahead. Whole cluster fermentation adds multi dimensional aromatics and extra tannin to frame the big ball of fruit. The 2014 seems to be filled with energy & holding on tight ready to develop & unwind.

The 2011 vintage was a cold late one, producing aromatic balanced, finessed wines with lower alcohol. The ancient sand dune soils at White Hawk Vineyard in Los Alamos, restrict vigor & maintain balance. My "trentotto file" or 38 short rows, split evenly between clones 470 & 174, were picked on the 28th of October after enjoying an extra two weeks of hang time. The fruit was 100% submerge cap fermented, bringing out a beautiful raspy red fruit, cranberry & strawberry nose, mixed with the sweet vanilla from 30% new American Oak barrels, and 70% seasoned French Oak barrels. Blended with 2% Viognier Cote-Rotie style. The 2011 was held in tank for an extended period, bottled in May 2021, at 10 years of age. Very spicy, smooth & balanced. Alcohol 12.9% 140 cases produced.

To say the entire 2011 year, vintage & resulting wines were a "challenge" would possibly be the understatement of the year.
In December 2011, after harvest, our second child arrived and she was perfect & balanced. I was dreading having to one day explain to her why there wasn't a commemorative birth year namesake wine, as there was for her big brother.
Lucky for me, and for her, the 2011 wines finally sorted themselves out with a little extended barrel age, and eventually became phenomenal!
There wasn't much tonnage to start with in 2011. I very carefully selected the best of the best.
